Sandwich Degree Programmes
The Directorate, with the approval of the Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti Senate runs the same set of degree courses available in the regular undergraduate programmes on an affiliation status. The Centre runs:
- Five – year degree programme
- Four- year degree programme, both on sandwich basis.
- To provide in-service training Programme for teachers in order to improve their professionalism
- To update practicing teachers’ knowledge on current development in their disciplines.
- To provide instructional courses leading to Bachelor Degree in Sciences, Arts and Social Science, Vocational and Technical courses with bias for teaching.
- To accommodate candidates who are not privileged to pursue regular university education Programme.
- To encourage long life education.
- To provide basis for cross fertilization of knowledge and idea through conferences, seminars, workshops, and study groups for the purpose of improving instruction and learning.
- To instill professionalism ethics in students during the course of study.
- To produce graduates that would be able to teach competently and efficiently at the primary and the secondary school levels.

Applied Scholastics – Nigeria
Applied Scholastics is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and enhance national efforts geared towards the delivery of effective educational services and the use of appropriate and successful teaching and learning materials. Applied Scholastics emphasizes the educational philosophy embodied in the teaching and learning methodology developed by educationalist and humanitarian, L. Ron Hubbard.
These teaching and learning methods, collectively known as "Study Technology", are contained in published materials copyrighted to L. Ron Hubbard Library ("Copyrighted Materials") and are in alignment with current pedagogical research on how people learn best and further how students can apply and utilize that knowledge in real world applications and solving of problems. This pedagogy has been found to be a vital catalyst in the delivery of effective school education. It equips both the teacher and the student with the interactive learning strategies and techniques, which are much needed for successful classroom life as well as for use in professional life thereafter.
The interactive learning strategy, concepts, tools, skills and effective teaching techniques provide real solutions to creating students who can comprehend their academics and who can use their subject matter to further their education and life goals. Because they know their subject matter they achieve higher standards and better grades, thus assisting the teachers and school administrators to achieve the mandates set forth in States’ and National standards more readily and easily. The approach enhances the reading, understanding and application ability of pupils and students. Furthermore, it is noted that learners who are able to read with understanding are motivated to continue to learn on their own and extend their educational horizons.
In order to meet the growing demand for services across nations Applied Scholastics has established campuses and centers in various parts of the world, one of which is this centre in AOCOED. The purpose of this centre is the training and professional developments of all level of educators/lecturers and teachers of public and private schools to implement the study technology and thus help to achieve high quality of teaching and learning in their institutions/colleges and schools. This will also help in achieving the aim of the Universal Basic Education for this country.
Our mission also encompasses making our vital tools available to all who wish to learn and to teach effectively, ensuring that comprehension by students is achieved. Our aim is to beef–up the re-training of primary, junior and secondary school teachers in Lagos State and States of the country as part of our contribution to the Federal Government intervention in re-training of teachers for the Universal basic Education.
The Project has a whole of programmes ranging from a three, and a five to ten-day training workshops designed to introduce the participants to identification of specific barriers to learning, the tools to help students to grasp the materials being studied, the means to organize the basic learning environment towards the attainment of best results for both the students and the teachers, and the means to make the learners play key and active roles in the teaching/learning process and have increased responsibility for their learning. They are intended to introduce the lecturers/teachers to the application of study technology in their classroom practices and thereby change their perspectives to the whole process of teaching and learning and to provide them with learning tools they need to help students to overcome the barriers to illiteracy.
We have training/workshop programmess for lecturers and different categories of teachers.
The products of the training workshop will acquire the capacity to apply the basics of Study Technology to the organization of their lesson plans and help students develop interest in learning and also help them overcome learning difficulties. Among other things the training workshop is specifically designed:
- To produce teacher who can help students to meet their live expectations and fulfillments
- Train teachers who can understand and appreciate the right of the child and give him his freedom
- Have teachers who can develop high level of tolerance in handling students attitudes
- Have teachers that can bring up children who can take full possession of themselves and learning at all times and stay in communication with teachers and pears.
- Have teachers that can help the child to be a happy, careful and intelligent individual
- Have teachers that are able to help students to develop interest in their learning
- Have teachers that can assist the child to recover rapidly from learning difficulties, physical challenges, and upsets etc that are often associated child development.

The College has been involved in a series of research works through the establishment and operations of some Units and Centres. These include:
- Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education Studies (DIVOTES) to train students for NABTEB Examinations.
- Centre for Lagos Studies (CEFOLAS). The Centre serves a research centre and as the custodian of the history and culture of Lagos State. It also serves as a museum for Lagos State cultural artifacts.
- Academic Planning Unit aimed at promoting research works among staff and improving the quality of academic programmes offered in the College.

The School runs virtually all the NCE courses that exist in the full time regular programme but for four years. It is headed by a Dean. Lectures are taken during the weekends and the courses are taught by the same set of lecturers handling regular NCE programmes.

Centre for Outreach Programme
The Centre runs virtually all the NCE courses that exist in the School of Part Time Studies also for four years. It is headed by a Director. Lectures are taken during the weekends and the courses are taught by qualified lecturers hired by the College for the outreach centres located in the five geographical zones of the state with strict and regular monitoring by the Centre.

The Rapid Learning Approach (RLA) Project
Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education has traced the much acclaimed fall in the standard of education in the country, partly, to deficiencies in the reading-skill acquisition process in the primary schools. Victims of such primary education inadequacy face tremendous challenges in mastering further instructions presented through the printed page at the secondary and tertiary levels of education.
This project brings together three agencies that have specific needs to carry out research. These are:
Local Government Education Authority, Badagry, that wishes to reverse the present trend in reading – skill acquisition and generally, to enhance the teaching and learning process.
Master Class Books, the publishing company that has researched and developed a book specifically suited to the needs at hand, and now wishes to test the book as well as the teaching method, tagged Rapid Learning Approach (RLA).
Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, that sees the whole situation as a challenge, since a fall in the standard of education automatically calls into question the quality of teachers and the efficiency of teaching methods in use.
The Project- The NCE/RLA
The project is aimed at helping teachers spot children with specific learning disabilities and render the necessary help. It is also an attempt to ensure that the public school pupils can read from the foundation classes. (Primaries 1 & 2) as against the present situation where pupils in the penultimate and final classes (primaries 5 & 6) are just managing to read.
The New Concept English Course (NCEC) for Nursery and Primary Schools by Efosa Aiwansedo is being used for this project. These books (the series) incorporate the Rapid Learning Approach (RLA). The books also feature a step-by-step phonetic guide to reading, teach the rules of English, build vocabulary and are appropriately as well as colourfully illustrated. The book is child – friendly. 7000 units were produced for use during the first year of this project.
RLA employs crafts, art, music, dance, drama, rhymes and a host of others together, to form an approach to teaching. The games in RLA stimulate the brain to produce positive responses to the teaching and learning process. RLA is stress-free to both teachers and pupils. It also assists in developing and promoting reading acquisition.
The 7000 units of New Concept English Course book 1 produced for the 1st year of this programmed was handed over to the LGEA, Badagry, in a colourful ceremony on the 30th of April, 2008.
Training in RLA started with all lecturers in English, General Studies and Primary Education Studies being trained in the use of RAL in July, 2007. Teachers from AOCOED Staff School were also trained in teaching and learning phonics, reading strategies and RLA on the 19th of September, 2007. The NCE full time students were also trained for the year 2007 and 2008 academic sessions. All primary 1 teachers from the 50 primary schools in the LGEA have been trained in a 3-day workshop.
It need be noted that all these trainings were fully sponsored by the College and the publication of the NCEC text was fully funded by the College. Indeed, the College has been the sole sponsor of the project.
Media Related Outreaches
The image of the College has been positively boosted through our appearance at different media houses like AIT phone-in programme on Reading Skills, Radio Lagos Programme on Education and Reading skills acquisition, Radio Lagos news up-date on the handing over of books to Badagry LGEA, the Punch Education features series etc.
Comments from supervisors who visited the students while in the target schools include:
- The level of success is encouraging; this method would reduce nuisance, and noise making and boring effects of poorly managed classes.
- The project has positive impact on the pupils
- It is a project that must be sustained for maximum and lasting result. It will generally improve literacy skills in pupils.
- Truly, it is a rapid learning approach. Pupils are learning in a rapid way through the games.
